Sori Choi is a distinguished figure as a solo percussionist and visual artist in his home country of Korea, marking an illustrious career that spans global stages and artistic disciplines. Choi has released 10 solo albums over 30 years and has performed in over 200 cities around the world. Choi has established himself as a globally recognized solo percussionist, celebrated for his innovative approach to sound and rhythm.

Beyond the concert hall, Sori Choi's creative endeavors extend into the visual arts, where he explores the sonic potential of materials. Guided by the belief that every object and form of energy harbors its own unique sound, Choi investigates the essence of sound through the physicality of materials. His creative process involves the manipulation of aluminum and copper plates, paper, and canvas through techniques such as tapping, coloring, and grinding. These actions are not merely acts of artistry but explorations into the auditory possibilities contained within each medium.

Sori Choi's work transcends the conventional boundaries of art, embodying an intersection where music, dance, and visual art converge. His works are not confined to the visual domain but resonate with the vibrancy of sound and movement, offering audiences an immersive experience that challenges the traditional separation of artistic disciplines. Through his innovative practice, Sori Choi invites us to reconsider our perceptions of sound and visual art, presenting a harmonious blend that speaks to the synesthetic possibilities of creative expression.

A broad selection of Sori Choi's work will be on display during the Fabrik Projects Gallery's two week residency at Bergamot Station in Santa Monica during Frieze Week and beyond. This exhibition will offer a comprehensive overview of Choi's multifaceted career, showcasing his ability to transcend the conventional boundaries of art by merging music, dance, and visual art.

A special musical performance will also be presented on Saturday, March 2 @ 3pm.
